Ties to anti-immigrant hate group, Center for Immigration Studies
November 2019: The Southern Poverty Law Center uncovered over 40 emails with materials from the anti-immigration hate group, Center for Immigration Studies (CIS). As The Daily Beast report, “Katie McHugh, a former Breibart reporter who was fired from the website, has told the SPLC that Miller was introduced to her to help shape her reporting. “We used [CIS material] to spin a narrative where immigrants of color were not only dangerous, violent individuals but also posed an existential threat to America,” she said. “We never fact-checked anything. We never called up other organizations to get any other perspective about those studies.… It was understood. You just write it up.”. [Daily Beast, SPLC]
900+ emails between white supremacist, Stephen Miller and white supremacist platform, Breitbart
November 2019: The Southern Poverty Law Center released 900+ emails between Stephen Miller and a Breitbart writer between 2015-2016. The report shows how Miller shared white nationalist sites and literature, recommended a book that touts the white genocide conspiracy theory, praised immigration policies that Hitler once praised, and exposed his ties to anti-immigrant hate group, Center for Immigration Studies. Trump's idea for a border moat with alligators or snakes
October 2019: In a March meeting in the Oval Office, President Trump ordered that the border wall be shutdown by the next day at noon. He also mentioned how he wanted a “fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down.” [NYT]
Denying visas to immigrants without health insurance
October 2019: The Trump adminsitration will deny visas to immigrants who cannot prove that they will have health insurance or cannot prove their ability to pay medical costs. This is part of Stephen Miller’s efforts to limit what he considers “the financial burdens of allowing immmigrants in the United States.” [NYT]
Limiting Refugee admissions (again!)
September 2019: The Trump administration is considering cutting refugee admissions by half or more (between 10,000 to 15,000). One top official even considered lowering the cap to zero (wouldn’t be surprised if that top official is Stephen!) [NYT]
Denying green cards to legal immigrants
August 2019: The Trump administration issued a final rule that allows the government to deny green cards to legal immigrants who have received certain public benefits. The “public charge” regulation was pushed by Stephen Miller in his efforts to restrict legal immigration. [Politico]
Attempting to Detain Immigrant Families Indefinitely
August 2019: The Trump administration released a new regulation, that would have to be approved by a federal judge, that would abolish the consent decree, a 20-day limit on detaining families in immigration jails. Abolishing this 20-day limit is one of Stephen Miller’s personal objectives. [NYT]
Mass ICE Raids
July 2019: The Trump administration attempted Stephen Miller-backed massive ICE raids. Thankfully due to activist and community efforts, they failed to materialized. [NPR]
Restricting Asylum Seekers
July 2019: The Trump administration released an interim final rule that would restrict access to the U.S. asylum system for anyone who does not seek protection from other countries which they go through before reaching the U.S. Under current federal law, any undocumented immigrant on U.S. soil who requests asylum must be given an asylum interview. ICE plans mass raids to "remove" millions of undocumented immigrants
June 2019: President Trump tweeted that his administration will “begin the process of removing” millions of undocumented immigrants and that they’ll be removed “as fast as they come in.” Stephen Miller has been pushing for mass raids. [Slate]
Evicting Undocumented Immigrants from Subsidized Housing
June 2019: Prodded by Stephen Miller, officials with the Department of Housing and Urban Development said that the Trump administration has proposed prohibiting households with at least one authorized immigrant from living in federally subsidized housing. This means that 108,000 people would have to be evicted. [New York Times]
Detaining unaccompanied migrant child in a former WWII Japanese-American internment camp
June 2019: The Trump administration will use Fort Sill, an Oklahoma military base that was used to detain Japanese-Americans during World War II, to detain 1,400 unaccompanied migrant children. With Stephen Miller in charge, these camps will continue to grow. [Esquire]

May 2019: Donald Trump asks for the resignation of L. Francis Cissna, the head of US Citizenship and Immigration Services, a move Stephen Miller had been publicly asking for.
